Burlington Northern Santa Fe has announced a $5,000 reward for information about shots that were fired at one of their trains on September 24th. The unknown suspects fired 15 rounds at the train during a spree that covered three miles.
“It's a very serious situation for us,” said Gus Melonas, spokesman for BNSF. Several of the .22 caliber shots fired hit the engine of the train, with a couple narrowly missing the cab window. The Spokane crew operating the train was not injured.
A black sedan was described as having oval headlights and a third brake light across the rear window. The gunman began firing on the train eight miles south of Quincey at Bear Springs County Road. The car followed the train for three miles firing rounds on three separate occasions. The final shots were fired along Highway 28 just outside of Wenatchee.
